The following comments were made on issues around Local Business & Tourism. This is raw data and has not been altered from what was put down on the postits we collected after the 2 consultation days.
- Great to have local farms, needs to be encouraged in some way
- Farming in all aspects is part of the heritage of the village and also its attraction to visitors and residents and to be encouraged and supported
- Farming is essential otherwise S/Gabriel becomes a satellite of Torbay
- Encourage the farming which is left
- Farmers have a difficult job and it must be remembered that every piece of farmland is a piece of someone's business. Respect the farmer and they will share the resources
- Farming is vital to our village
- Encourage farmers (not more camp sites)
- Could local produce be sold in local shops?
- Maybe some scheme to help cider production by renting/loaning press to small apple tree owners to make cider. Or somewhere for us to donate our apples in return for some juice/cider!
- Village could provide more support to local cider + cider related things. Ie a press in the orchard
- Here Here (to point 33), what produce is produced locally!
- Local market would be excellent
- I agree (to point 43)
- Local produce locally available
- Local growing for the local community (community enterprise)
- Local wood
- Local market to sell locally grown produce
- Try to get local food into local shops (+ reduce food miles in the process)
- Would love to be able to buy some of our food direct from the farms or gardens in Stoke Gabriel - perhaps some sort of scheme could be set up
- Try to help farmers etc by buying local produce where possible.
- Occasional farmers market
- Extend and support the cider/apple juice cottage industry
- I agree (with point 85)
- Provide allotments for local residents
- More village allotments
- Yes lots more (to point 70)
- No more use of farming land for camping/caravaning/holiday/second home chalets
- I agree (to point 29)
- I agree (to point 29)
- Sad to see farms have dissapeared from our village - please no more caravan parks
- No more caravan parks
- I feel that farming land should not be the same as caravan land. Diversification by all means buut caravan parks with sellable accomodation - this is not farming.
- Commercial Alley' Totnes road commercial parking should be restricted. Large lorries with operating liceances should have commercial premises
- Parking near corners particularly in Aish road by lorries and vans will one day cause an accident by obstructing view on corners
- Stoke Gabriel hotel development should be reduced, and walls retained where possible (signed)
- Strongly believe we need to beg the hotel not to develop land. Up to now the hotel hasn't really tried to get locals in more - surely this would increase business.
- I agree (to point 26)
- Any permission to knock down part of the wall at Gabriel Court should be rescended
- Stop too much building ie Gabriel Court Plans.
- Gabriel Court. Don't lose walled garden
- Some lowering of the Gabriel Court high wall could enable the garden to be better seen. The garden is a community asset and should not be allowed to degenerate as it is currently.
- Vital to retain Post Office as a social service to the community (both young and old) - (signed)
- Post Office is an essential service to the village for young and old + in betweens
- Post Office vital for life of village
- Post Office is a need not a luxury
- Fight to keep Post Office and local amenities.
- Must keep Post Office
- Post Office is a must.
- Keep the orchards especially Yard to be retained - part of the village history and beauty
- Maintain Yarde orchard as important part of the village
- Yes please (to point 15)
- Yarde orchard should be retained as it is is an integral part of the village
- Yarde Orchard, is an integral feature to be preserved at (almost) any cost (signed)
- I agree (to point 20)
- So do I (agree to point 20), would be a fantastic community space
- Yarde Orchard is vital for the appearance + character of the village
- I agree (to point 35)
- I agree (to point 35)
- Yarde Orchard should be preserved as an open space
- Local orchards for apples + other fruit
- I agree for maintenance of orchard
- Support your, I, only remaining dairy farmer
- Whilst locally born people respect private areas, many newcomers do not seem to
- Keep to footpaths leaving gates open.Obey the countryside code if you know it. Protect wildlife. Follow code on birds nesting time
- If we all support the shops we have & attend the large variety of functions available we could stay a proper community
- Needs more farmers to look after animals. Like Phil Collins.
- I agree (to point 8)
- You need more farmers like Phil Collings
- I agree (to point 10)
- I agree with point about irresponsible dog owners - be great if we could improve this
- What farmers? The only thing left is horses
- Support the planting of apple trees in surrounding area
- Local composting of waste
- Local generation of energy (not necessarily growing biofuels but recycling local waste, perhaps including sewage)
- Local skill training for agriculture + food production
- Feel very dissapointed at closure of riverside 'permissive' footpath. Would like to see it restored + incorporated into a long distance River Dart Walkway
- Agree 100% (to point 53)
- Possibly extend conservation areas
- We havn't got a farming community anymore
- Do not let anymore open farmland be built on - especially plans to build lots of houses in field behind Pound Field.
- Keep hedges cut, pay for it if necessary
- A community greenhouse would be good
- Please can farmers try to control bracken on their land as it is invading hedgerows as a result, from which is it difficult to eradicate.
- Countryide should be brought to the fore more often
- (could not read) - 'vote for Farming, Post Office?'
